三天后，埃得村，午后时分。

几个小孩子在村口的树阴下玩骑马打仗的游戏。一个三岁的男孩骑在比他大两岁的哥哥身上，旁边站了一个正在吃手指的三岁小姑娘。这三个孩子都是一家的，因为家中爹娘正在设宴庆祝他们五哥加里的回乡，聚集了村里好多人。小屋子里装不下太多的小孩，他们便和村中的其他的几个小孩在村口玩耍。
